The word Zacualpa translates to "old town," which is appropriate as the village occupies the ruins of at least two Precolumbian towns and dates back 900-1524 AD. Zacualpan traje is easily identified by its bold contrast of large red and purple bands and the incorporation of zig-zags. No figurative motifs are present.
Of particular note are the tassels continuing from the shoulders on huipils. Also notable on the man's tzute are the large pompons and the triangular shape.
