April 2007
The weeks following my selection as Memorial Student Center President have been filled with anticipation. I am excited about many things: the potential to give back to an organization that has allowed me to grow and develop, the future of the MSC both physically and organizationally, and the ability to reconnect with the students of the MSC. I look forward to putting this energy back into the MSC over the next year.
First, thank you to all of the outgoing MSC officers for the knowledge you have imparted. You have all played a major role in developing and fostering the culture of the MSC. Each of you has been key in setting the foundation for future achievements of MSC students. The MSC has given each of us something unique, whether it is confidence to achieve future success, friendships that will last a lifetime, or the opportunity to become involved in an organization that directly reflects our interests. It is this diversity that is distinctive and special to our organization, and through this diversity we can find the connecting thread, our unifying objective to make the best better.
This idea of unity is the cornerstone of the 58th MSC Officer Team. We will work to incorporate all areas of the MSC, programming- or resource-based, to better the 1500-plus student volunteers. By sharing ideas, co-programming both within the MSC and across campus, and communicating initiatives across campus we can better serve the ever-changing needs of Texas A&M students.
Next year is a critical year for the MSC, as we are currently in the process of our Master Plan initiative in which we are discussing potential changes to the physical structure of the MSC. It is essential for students to play a large role in this process in order to ensure the MSC remains the "living room of campus," full of tradition and values, while continuing to embrace new possibilities and ideas.
This is our year. This is our opportunity to make a difference in the outlook of Texas A&M. We need to work together to provide a future that is continually brighter for those who walk in our footsteps. Our success can only be reached by standing on the shoulders of those who have gone before us, and after this year we will be the shoulders. Let us make sure they are strong shoulders, capable of bearing future business, government, and academic leaders. As we start our term and see the departure of the leaders before us, we must remember that Texas A&M is a special place. This is a campus that is rooted in tradition, but welcomes positive change with open arms. The MSC plays a unique role in connecting the perspectives of students with university initiatives. Please join me as we work to positively impact the future and continue to make the best better!
